SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Friday (July 25) announced that the last three major civil contracts for Thomson Line’s Orchard, Marina South and Gardens by the Bay stations and tunnels were awarded for around S$1.32 billion.
“With the award of these three civil contracts, LTA has awarded all the 25 major civil contracts for Thomson Line at a total cost of approximately S$7.77 billion. Construction works for Thomson Line are currently in full swing and the line is on track to open in phases between 2019 and 2021,” said Mr Chua Chong Kheng, Deputy Chief Executive of LTA.
The LTA also gave a breakdown of the contracts awarded:
- Orchard station: Penta-Ocean Construction-Bachy Soletanche Singapore Joint Venture was awarded the contract at a sum of approximately S$498 million.
The station will be an interchange station connecting Thomson Line with the North-South Line (NSL), with commuters on the NSL looking at greater accessibility to the Thomson and Havelock precincts, said LTA
- Marina South station and tunnels: The contract, valued at S$488 million, was awarded to Sinohydro Corporation (Singapore Branch)-Sembcorp Design and Construction Joint Venture.
- Gardens by the Bay station and tunnels: Nishimatsu Construction-Bachy Soletanche Singapore Joint Venture clinched this contract, worth S$331 million.
The station will serve as the sixth Civil Defence shelter along the Thomson Line, alongside Woodlands, Lentor, Mayflower, Bright Hill and Mount Pleasant stations. It will also link Thomson Line with the Eastern Region Line when both lines are completed, according to LTA.
The 30 km, fully underground Thomson Line comprises 22 stations, and will connect the northern and central parts of Singapore to the city and the rest of the MRT network, the transport authority said.
