SINGAPORE: Around 75 residents and grassroots leaders set a new mark in the Singapore Guiness Book of Records on Saturday (July 26) when they created the largest Singapore map made of ribbon ketupats.

Ketupats are traditional Malay rice cakes usually eaten during festive seasons.

The map created on Saturday at the event organised by Sembawang GRC measured about 4 metres long and 2.5 metres wide and took 3,000 ribbon ketupats to make. Residents and passers-by also had a chance to learn how to weave a ketupat.

The event was attended by Sembawang GRC MP Hawazi Daipi, who is also senior parliamentary secretary for the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower. There were also performances by famous local and foreign Malay artistes.

The event marked the official closing ceremony of the annual Bazar Raya Utara in Woodlands that was held during the fasting month.
