Guilin joins Chinese visa waiver scheme

Guilin

Guilin has become the latest Chinese city to start offering 72-hour visa-free stays for transit air passengers.

Travellers entering at Guilin Liangjiang International Airport, who hold an onward ticket to a third destination within three days of their arrival, will now be allowed to stay in the capital of southern China’s Guangxi region without obtaining a visa prior to arrival.

The scheme covers citizens of 51 countries, including the US, Japan, South Korea, Australia and European Union countries.

With its picturesque scenery and limestone karst hills, Guilin is a popular tourist destination in China. The city now has direct flight connections to numerous regional hubs, including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Bangkok and Hong Kong.

Guilin becomes the ninth Chinese city in the 72-hour visa waiver scheme, joining Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shenyang and Dalian.
