Located in the city centre and surrounded by attractions, Suria City Hotel Johor Baru is ideal for quick stopovers and short stays, writes Shuib Taib

LIKE its sister Suria Hotels Resorts properties in Marang (Terengganu), Cherating and Janda Baik (Pahang) which are all near the sea or river, Suria City Hotel Johor Bahru is near the Straits Of Tebrau.

This makes it a perfect choice for travellers who want to visit Singapore, as the hotel is only two kilometres from the Causeway.

Although it is in the city centre, it is tucked in a quiet corner of Jalan Bukit Meldrum, so despite the hustle and bustle outside, guests still get a sense of privacy.

The hotel offers no-fuss accommodation which makes it a suitable place for quick stopovers and short stays.

Another advantage is that it’s near some old streets full with great places to eat.

Other attractions include shopping complexes and a Duty Free Zone outlet as well as Stulang Laut Beach (just one km away), JB International Ferry Terminal (one km), Johor Zoo (three km), Hutan Bandar Recreational Park (three km), Sultan Abu Bakar Palace Museum Mosque (four km), Masjid Taman Pelangi (three km), Johor Art Gallery (four km), Lido Beach and Danga Bay (five km).

In case you need medical treatment or advice, the nearest clinic is a mere 10 minutes’ drive away and the Sultan Ismail Airport is 30-45 minutes away while Singapore’s Changi Airport is an hour’s drive away.

There are two wings and depending on which wing your room is at, you will get a decent view of the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex, the Straits Of Tebrau and the Causeway.

The hotel provides a decent breakfast but for dinner, I prefer to drive to JB International Ferry Terminal which has lots of stalls selling all kinds of food. There are also a few nightspots nearby for those who feel up to it but for me, I find sotong bakar more enjoyable.

The hotel has meeting rooms of various sizes to accommodate all your business and meeting needs. All rooms are equipped with audio-visual and meeting facilities, including flipcharts, whiteboards, projectors and screens.

There are also a swimming pool and a spa, Ayerspa which offers traditional Malay treatment. Currently it offers a range of packages such as foot, back, neck and scalp massage.

GETTING THERE

Drive towards the Customs Complex at Jalan Tanjung Puteri. After about one km, make a U-turn into Jalan Bukit Meldrum. You can see the hotel with its trademark triangle facade.
