The far corner of Changi – at the eastern end of Singapore island – is a stark contrast to the busy international airport, convention centres and business park. Idyllic Changi Village has a new facility: a conference centre and hotel that blends new and old features with creativity.
Set amid lush greenery, the Changi Cove complex comprises a conference centre, hotel and restored military building that now hosts events. Its unique concept and facilities are drawing local and regional companies, MNCs and government agencies for formal meetings, corporate retreats and product launches for groups of 10 to 210 people.
The GateWay Conference Centre can be configured with retractable, tiered seats for 210 people. It also converts into dining space for 250 guests. For training and seminars, there are eight meeting rooms. Instead of the usual classroom or theatre style seating, organisers can opt for double-U shape or other arrangements.
The Incubator, in particular, offers an eclectic choice of seats, including beanbags and benches, in unusual layouts to encourage creative thinking.
The complex’s ‘MyPlace’ hotel has 112 rooms, where a standard feature is a special wall where guests can write, doodle and draw on should a bright idea come while resting.
The restored ‘CommandHouse’ offers three high-ceilinged function rooms and two meeting rooms for private events and dining. Even the former parade square can be used for events. The building also has 13 accommodation suites.
Groups can opt for a combined indoor and outdoor programme, using the conference centre for formal sessions and adjourning to Pulau Ubin or Changi Beach for outdoor activities.
For corporate retreats, some clients include morning walks on the boardwalk or evening chill-out sessions at Changi Village.
The meeting planner of a regular MNC client says: “We chose Changi Cove for the unique meeting rooms. We especially like the writeable walls.”
