Over 50 duped by lure of Singapore jobs

The RCF police is hunting for members of a job racket gang that duped over 50 people across various states to the tune of `30 lakh on the pretext of getting them jobs in Singapore. Most of the victims hail from Jharkhand and Kolkata, who read the bogus advertisements in the newspapers and were duped by them. The gang operated from its rented office in Chembur, which they shut down before decamping with people’s money.

The two wanted accused have been identified as Shivkumar Prajapati and Krishna Tiwari and have been booked for cheating and criminal breach of trust by the police.

According to the police, the complainant in the case is one Anwar Noor Mohammed Khan (36), a resident of east Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. Khan is a poclain (digging crane) operator and had earlier been to Saudi Arabia for similar work on a contractual basis. However, he was unemployed the last year and was searching for work. Some months ago, he came across an advertisement in a Hindi daily about recruitment for various jobs in Sea Dreams World Cruise Company of Singapore.

He then contacted the company that placed the advertisement and was asked to visit the company’s Mumbai office, Sea Marines Services at CG Road, Chembur for medical tests and further procedures. “Khan passed the medical test and on the instructions of manager Prajapati, he made a cash payment and later deposited money into Tiwari’s account as visa processing fee, air tickets fare, etc. In all, Khan spent over `60,000 over the job, and was asked by Prajapati to come by later on a given date to collect the air ticket and the passport. However, recently when Khan visited again, he found a huge crowd gathered outside the company’s office, which was shut down. All those people too had come to collect their ticket and passport. When Khan tried calling Prajapati and Tiwari, their phones were switched off. Khan and the others then realised that they had been cheated,” said PSI Rohit Sawant of RCF police station.
