Nokia is hitting the ground running in Barcelona on Monday with new Lumia handsets and a rebranded map experience for all Windows Phone 8 devices at Mobile World Congress.
Nokia has announced a rebranding of the company’s mobile location apps, which will now be part of the HERE experience which debuted back in November on iOS and Android.
Building upon 25 years of mapping technology, Nokia is making its suite of HERE apps available for all Windows Phone 8 devices starting today, which includes HERE Maps, HERE Drive (regional navigation), HERE Drive+ (global navigation), HERE Transit and HERE City Lens.
Previously exclusive to Nokia’s Lumia handsets, HERE Maps, Drive and Transit are now available to all Windows Phone 8 devices as part of a joint effort with Microsoft to “strengthen the Windows Phone ecosystem.”
Speaking of Lumia, AllThingsD is reporting that Nokia is also debuting some lower-cost smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2013. The Lumia 720 is priced at $329 before taxes and carrier discounts, the first Nokia handset to include a microSD expansion slot for adding storage capacity.
Echoing the flagship Lumia 920 without the higher price tag, the Lumia 720 will be available in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore before the end of the first quarter, arriving in Europe, Africa and India during Q2; no word on when the handset will land on American soil, though.
However, Nokia also has a budget-priced Lumia 520 handset on the way, which will land with T-Mobile USA in the second quarter of the year, priced around $183 before carrier discounts — so expect that one to likely be free with a two-year agreement.
