STRATHFIELDSAYE Storm netball coach Maleta Roberts helped Papua New Guinea claim third place in the 2013 Nations Cup tournament in Singapore.
Roberts was co-captain of the Pepes team that proved too strong for Sri Lanka in last weekend’s positional play-off, winning 60-48 after a tough match that was not reflected in the final scores.
PNG was disappointed to miss a place in the championship final when it was edged out by Uganda, who finished the preliminary rounds on equal points but with a superior goal percentage.
The unranked Ugandans were the surprise package of the carnival, beating the host nation 52-29 in the decider to lift the Nations Cup trophy for the first time.
