A fairytale gets a funny makeover, an art show sells easy-on-the-pocket pieces, while celebrities do their Christmas decorating early.

1. Check out this hilarious take on Jack and the Beanstalk

When Jack receives measly green beans in exchange for their pet cow, he and his mum get more than what they bargained for: a giant beansprout – in Marina Bay! See Jack battle a man-eating Giant and experience first love after he climbs up the taugeh in Jack the Bean-Sprout!. From 23 Nov, various times. Drama Centre Theatre. Tickets from $40.

2. Begin the season with good cheer
It won’t be Christmas without Christmas trees. DJs Vernetta Lopez, Denise Tan, Tim Oh, Jean Danker and more are given the fun task of furnishing a couple of trees with soft toys, which will go on display in IKEA stores for two weeks. Don’t forget to join the soft toy Christmas tree auction to do your bit for charity. 23-24 Nov. IKEA Tampines and Alexandra.

3. Snag your first art piece at the Affordable Art Fair
There’s a wide variety of contemporary artworks to choose from. But it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg – there’s an “Under $1,000 Wall” of masterpieces to fit your budget. 22-24 Nov. F1 Pit Building. Tickets from $12.

4. Need a pick-me-up? Catch One OK Rock
Feeling lethargic? This Japanese band combines rock, emo and heavy metal music to get you going. Their latest album, Zankyo Reference, reached no. 2 on the Orion Chart. 22 Nov, 8 pm. The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel. Tickets from $78.

5. Place your bets on who will win at the 18th Singapore Hit Awards
JJ Lin has a lot of nominations, but he’s up against Jay Chou, Sandy Lam and Super Junior M – the Mandarin subgroup of the popular K-pop boy band, Super Junior. So it could be anyone’s guess. 22 Nov. Suntec Convention Centre. Tickets from $38.
