The figures are in following the World Cup games in Brazil: Over the month-long period, the country’s tourism board says they hosted one million foreign tourists from 203 countries who were happiest with the food and local hospitality.
For comparison, when South Africa hosted the games in 2010 the country hosted 310,000 foreign tourists, while Germany received 2 million foreigners during the games in 2006.
According to numbers out of the Ministry of Tourism, in addition to one million foreign visitors, more than 3 million Brazilians also traveled throughout the country during the tournament.
Visitor surveys revealed that foreign tourists were overwhelmingly impressed with friendly Brazilians, giving them a 98 percent approval rating, and their cuisine, giving the food a 93 percent approval rating.
Security appears to have been a non-issue, as visitors gave it a score of 92 percent. Public transportation and tourist information also received top scores.
Meanwhile, it appears Brazilians were more critical of the games than foreign nationals, as they gave slightly lower approval ratings for services and hospitality (91 percent) and security (84 percent).
At Brazilian airports, 16.7 million passengers flowed in and out of the hubs throughout the games with take-offs and landings averaging five a minute.
That compares to 2.6 million passenger flow in South Africa four years ago.
