SINGAPORE: The “Best Companies for Mums” Awards – jointly organised by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Women’s Development Secretariat (WDS) and Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) – saw 69 companies and individuals recognised for their family-friendly policies on Friday (July 4).

Among the firms that won the “Best Companies for Mums” award: KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, McDonald’s, OCBC, and SingTel.

Two new categories were added this year: “Most Enabling Companies for Dads” and “Most Supportive Colleagues”, joining the existing “Best Companies for Mums” and “Most Supportive Supervisors” awards.

“Employees today are drawn to organisations that help them find work-life balance and personal satisfaction. Best companies to work for are those dedicated to cultivate career advancement programmes and good work-life balance for their employees,” said Ms Cham Hui Fong, Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC.

Added Mr Bob Tan, Co-Chairperson of TAFEP and Vice-President of the Singapore National Employers Federation: “The support and flexibility given by employers can play an important part in helping to attract and retain talent.”

The call for nominations went out in March, at the WDS’ International Women’s Day celebrations, and the 200 nominees were judged based on the company’s extent of flexible work arrangement practices available, variety of pro-family employee leave schemes, employee support schemes and infrastructural support like lactation facilities and onsite childcare.

All winning companies and individuals received a unique “Best Companies for Mum” plaque.
