Singaporean man reported missing in Cambodia

A Singaporean man has been reported missing in Cambodia. Local police said Sanjay Radakrishna, 26, was last seen on Tuesday with a local mountain guide.

SINGAPORE: A Singaporean man has been reported missing in Cambodia. Local police said Sanjay Radakrishna, 26, was last seen on Tuesday with a local mountain guide.

According to a Facebook post which is making its rounds, Sanjay, a trainee teacher who is completing his final year of studies at the National Institute of Education, last spoke with his girlfriend on Monday morning.

He reportedly told his girlfriend that he has set off to climb Phnom Aural, Cambodia’s tallest peak at 1,813 metres. He did not manage to do so on Sunday due to bad weather.

Sanjay, who is in Cambodia by himself, was supposed to have returned to Singapore on Wednesday afternoon.

A fellow NIE trainee teacher told Channel NewsAsia that Sanjay is an avid trekker who has been to Everest base camps several times and that he regularly organises climbing trips.

Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said it is aware of the case of the Singaporean who has been reported missing in the Mount Aural area of Kampong Speu province in Cambodia.

It is also in touch with the next-of-kin to render consular assistance.

The ministry added that the Singapore Embassy in Phnom Penh has sought the assistance of the Cambodian authorities to undertake search-and-rescue efforts expeditiously to locate the missing Singaporean.
