Rumble in Rainforest Music Fest despite W-Cup fever — CEO

KUCHING: Despite coinciding with the 2014 Fifa World Cup, the response for the 2014 Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) has been good.

Sarawak Tourism Board chief executive officer Dato Rashid Khan said sales of tickets have been good, drawing foreign tourists from countries such as Australia, and he believes that the World soccer Cup would not impact RWMF.

“Four years ago, the World Cup also coincided with RWMF, and it was during the World Cup finals, but at the end of the day we set up a big screen to allow the audience to watch the World Cup after RWMF,” Khan said in a press conference held at Dewan Casuarina in Damai Beach Resort yesterday.

He also estimated that the visitors to RWMF this year would be on par with visitors to 2013’s RWMF.

Meanwhile, a new stage has been added to the current mix of the ‘Tree Stage’ and ‘Jungle Stage’, allowing festival revellers to enjoy shows at the ‘Theatre Stage’, Sarawak Cultural Village auditorium.

The indoor stage will feature groups and artistes from Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, Germany, Japan and Sarawak.
