French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has again waded into the dispute between BNP Paribas and US authorities over penalties that could top $10bn imposed on the lender for alleged sanctions infractions. It could hurt the EU-US trade deal, he says. “This treaty can only exist on the basis of reciprocity,” he told RTL radio. “If, in the case of a European bank, they were behaving in a unilateral way, and not on the basis of reciprocity, that could have negative consequences.”
