AMRITSAR: The
district (Rural) police Tuesday unearthed a fake visa scam by arresting two
persons identified as Balbir Singh alias Babblu and Ranjit Singh alias Manny,
residents of village Kotla Suba Singh and village Chananke respectively, for
committing frauds to the tune of lakhs.
The duo was promising hundreds of youth to send them abroad
and ‘looted’ money from them by giving them fake Singapore visas.
The two, along with one Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Ghuman
village had opened an office of travel agent at Baba Bakala and were accepting
from Rs 25,000-30,000 for getting Singapore visas. They were, however, issuing fake visas.
The matter was brought to the notice of police by Jaspal
Singh, a resident of Badowal, and 25 other youths following which the police
conducted a crackdown operation.
Over 70 passports, fake visas stamps, identity cards of the
anti-crime bureau of the police were recovered, said SSP Amritsar (Rural) Manmohan
Singh. He said the third accused who is absconding would be nabbed shortly.
