AMRITSAR: The

district (Rural) police Tuesday unearthed a fake visa scam by arresting two

persons identified as Balbir Singh alias Babblu and Ranjit Singh alias Manny,

residents of village Kotla Suba Singh and village Chananke respectively, for

committing frauds to the tune of lakhs.

The duo was promising hundreds of youth to send them abroad

and ‘looted’ money from them by giving them fake Singapore visas.

The two, along with one Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Ghuman

village had opened an office of travel agent at Baba Bakala and were accepting

from Rs 25,000-30,000 for getting Singapore visas.  They were, however, issuing fake visas.

The matter was brought to the notice of police by Jaspal

Singh, a resident of Badowal, and 25 other youths following which the police

conducted a crackdown operation.

Over 70 passports, fake visas stamps, identity cards of the

anti-crime bureau of the police were recovered, said SSP Amritsar (Rural) Manmohan

Singh. He said the third accused who is absconding would be nabbed shortly.
